He shakes his head and points to the door.
Maki looks where he is pointing, and removes her face from the glass. A little bell chimes as she opens the door to enter. She makes her way to her friend, sitting down across from him and putting down her bag.
Drake blinks then chuckles as he sees his friend’s face pressed to the glass. He sticks out his tongue at her and waved. Picking up his bagel, he showed it to her then bit into it.
She wags her tail happily and and starts licking the the window.
Drake sat in a coffee shop, a bottle of water and a bagel sitting on the table in front of him. He had yet to take a bite and only had a sip of the water, staring out the window watching others outside.
Maki walked through the crowded sidewalk, carrying her work clothes in a small duffle-bag. She looked into all of the little shops and eateries, then seeing a familiar face. She presses her face to the glass and knocks.
He blinks and chuckles lightly at her reaction, though blushes when he thinks of explaining his pets to her. “Well…” He takes a few bites of his wing and takes a few gulps of his beverage. “To start, the pets are sorta kitties. They are catgirls. They were both homeless and hurt in some way, so I offered to be their master so I could protect them, give them a home, give them whatever they needed or wanted. One was abused by her father, and after meeting me, we became friends. She’s happy to know that I won’t hurt her or try anything to her.”
After a few more bites to finish his wing, he wipes his mouth with a napkin. “As for the bride to be she’s short tempered, controlling, overly protective… she changed her appearance for me, but she did that on her own. She wants to do better than she used to be. She used to threaten me if I even said “hello” to a female friend. And the thing about having to knock her up… She needs to have an heir within a year, as it is according to demon law. But I’m no demon. I’m not ready to be a father. And there’s no way in hell I’m prepared to be a ruler of a demon kingdom.”
She eats the bone of her wing in one bite. “So you basically adopted two catgirls,” gathering all the details, “And your lady demon friend has a time frame in which you have to produce an heir to her kingdom.” Taking a sip of his drink, “I thought my life was a mess.” “Wait, I’m talking to him right now? Does she now about me?” Concerned, “Is she going to heckle me since I am talking to you now?”
He smiles softly. “Of course I came to see you.” He grabs another wing, but doesn’t even raise it up. “Stressed about a lot of things. No idea where to start. The pets I took in so I can protect and take care of them; my fiance being gone for weeks at a time, never telling me when she’s leaving, when she’s coming back, never saying what reasons; and then she gets controlling and yells at me at me for such small things. And on top of it, I just don’t feel ready to be a king or a dad. I feel so forced into it all.”
Her eyes widen, “YOU HAVE PETS? ARE THEY DOGS OR KITTIES?” She clears her throat, regaining herself. Finishing her wing, “Trouble with the bride to be? Still have to knock her up, Mr. Next in line?” She licks the sauce from her fingers.
“I think you look really cute in it. Though I do prefer you in your jeans, despite how cute your butt looks in your little orange shorts.” He winks at her and takes another bite. “There was also another reason I came here. Figured going to a new restaurant would help me relax a bit. Things have been a bit… stressful.”
“Shut up,” She blushes as she grabs another wing. “It wasn’t to see little old me?” Her ears twitch, “Stressful? What’s wrong?”
He grabs a wing as well and lightly shrugs, “Heard about this place and wanted to eat out, so though I would drop by. I knew you were a waitress, but wasn’t expecting the outfit. And I admit, was hoping to find you here. Only so many restaurants I can go to each day.” He chuckles and takes a bit of the wing, pushing his drink over to her in case she was thirsty.
Continues eating the wing, “I didn’t want to tell you which restaurant I worked. I hate wearing that stupid little uniform, but this was the only place that would hire me. I have a hard time getting my tail to go though the shorts.”
Drake nods and starts eating his burger first, wanting to leave the onion rings and wings alone for now so he could share them with her. He tries following the football game as he devours his burger.
Maki returns to the table wearing her flannel jacket over her work tee and blue jeans. She sits in front of him, grabbing a wing. Taking a bite, “So, what brought you here?”
